A unique opportunity to stay in a converted and refurbished former Masonic Hall (originally built in 1884) , the perfect self catering home and base to explore Ballycastle and the stunning Antrim Causeway Coast and Glens of Ireland! With its unique rich history and charming atmosphere, the Old Masonic Hall Ballycastle offers a comfortable and memorable stay for all guests.
The Old Masonic Hall has been lovingly restored and sympathetically converted into an impressive and comfortable self-catering tourist accommodation. The property will be of particular interest to those who love to experience a stay in a protected historically unique older building with private enclosed grounds and gardens all set within a conservation area.
Elevated above Ann Street, in the centre of Ballycastle town, the building provides extensive private lawn gardens to its front. The private path leads you directly to the impressive main entrance set in a striking blue classical façade. You enter the building through large original wood double doors which leads you to the main grand open plan hall, formerly the Lodge Hall and now its exceptional living, dining and kitchen space, with its sandstone floors, large double height space (6 metres high), feature ceiling period plaster cornicing and lighting detailing, expansive original stain glass windows, modern kitchen with all required appliances, large kitchen island with seating for shared dining experiences, separate large traditional dining table area and lounge seating area comprising of 3 comfortable sofas. The original dimensions of the Hall have been maintained to allow the occupants to experience the impressive double height space as it was intended too, all with the modern comforts detailed in a sensitive manner. After a day on the beach, a walk in the nearby forest, or a day out meandering at your leisure in Ballycastle town, a large wood burning stove with accompanying comfortable seating provides a perfect relaxing social lounge area within the historical Hall setting.
Guests have full and exclusive access to the Old Masonic Hall, gardens and grounds with private gated access.
Included within the grounds is a large enclosed stone walled court yard to the rear of the building with seating which provides a quiet sun trapped area with surrounding mature trees and hedgerows in a truly relaxing setting.
The property is approximately 1 hr to Belfast and Derry, and approx. 3 hrs to Dublin. A perfect base for your visit to explore Ireland and in particular the beautiful Causeway Coast and Antrim Glens area with its many secluded golden beaches and historic castles along with natural features such as UNESCO protected ancient volcanic structure the Giants Causeway. Within immediate reach of numerous golden beaches, ancient forests and landscapes, ruinous historic castles and golf courses overlooking Scotland, this listed historic property is an ideal location for friends and special family occasions to enjoy all of its local surroundings as well as the occasion of being together in the one special place.

OUR ROOMS
Our four rooms are thoughtfully designed to provide a cozy and welcoming retreat. Each room is equipped with modern amenities while retaining the character of the historic building, ensuring a relaxing and enjoyable stay.
The Bedrooms have been formed from the original rooms which made up the rest of the former Masonic Lodge building.
The Members Suite, a double height space with its own living room and accompanying mezzanine bedroom level with superking bed all with original historic detailing. The Members Suite includes its own large private bathroom with walk in shower and feature bath, a dedicated work space, lounge sofa and arm chairs and wood shuttered floor to ceiling windows with private door to external patio garden. This room due to its scale, design and features is a perfect getaway with its double height period living space with original timber flooring, plaster detailing and ceiling rose detailing as designed by the Masonic Lodge.
The Parlour room, positioned adjacent to the Members Room, provides a superking sized bed with its own modern ensuite shower and toilet facilities, all detailed with modern and original period Masonic features.
The Oculus Room, accessed from the entrance hall via its own private original staircase, provides a double bed and single bed with unique historic detailing such as circular Masonic stain glass windows and original fireplace surround (non functional) in a very unique and relaxing environment. A large shower room with toilet and wash hand basin is positioned adjacent to the Oculus Room for comfort.
The Robing Room, positioned on the ground floor, provides a superking sized bed within a spacious high ceiling room with accompanying historic stain glass window and window seat area.
All bedrooms have high quality comfortable mattresses. Bedding and towels provided. Two bedrooms have an option to be converted to twin beds upon request.
Included Facilities
Modern heating and hot water systems are provided. A 50 inch internet enabled TV with DVD player is provided within to the main hall for entertainment purposes. There is superfast broadband with full wireless coverage throughout the building. A washing machine and tumble dryer is provided within the kitchen area. A generous welcome pack is provided with essential provisions. Essentials such as bin bags, washing powder, dishwasher tablets and cleaning products are provided.
Historical facts
The Old Masonic hall has since its completion in 1884 provided a historically important social setting for the Mason's and the local Ballycastle community. William Percy French (1 May 1854 – 24 January 1920) an Irish songwriter, author, poet, entertainer and painter is known to have performed recitals within the Hall for the entertainment of the local community, while during World War 2 the Masonic Hall was used as a mess hall for the military including American troops being trained in the local area before being despatched to mainland Europe.
Other Notes
The Old Masonic Hall is ideally suited to small, low key social gatherings, wedding groups, friends and family occasions. Due to our village location and the buildings beautiful historical original detailing & features it is not suitable for parties involving outside guests and noise must be limited at night. Apologies, we don’t accept hen or stag bookings.
